Exam Pattern:

The selection process of Indian Bank Recruitment for Probationary Officer will consists of three phases:

  1. Preliminary Exam
  2. Main Exam
  3. A descriptive type test, followed by an Interview.

Preliminary Exam

The Preliminary Exam consists of 100 objective type questions and the time duration allotted to complete the exam is one hour.

Mains Exam

General Knowledge

Current affairs of last six weeks. Other than that, knowledge on static topics like – Awards & Honors Sports, Finance, Agriculture, Indian Economy, International Economy, UNO, Marketing, Indian Constitution, etc. History of Banking, countries/currencies, Books & Their Authors, Banking Terms, RBI, Fiscal-Monetary Policies is judged.


 Software & Hardware questions, IBPS Computer Basic Topics, Computer abbreviation, DataBase Management System (DBMS), Microsoft-office, Basic knowledge of Internet use, etc.

Those who pass the mains exam are immediately asked to appear for a Descriptive exam which carries 50 marks.

Descriptive Exam:

This exam will carry a total of 50 marks with two questions each of 25 marks.

The questions will be – Letter and essay writing in English Language.

Interview Round

Now, all the candidates who have passed the mains exam are considered eligible for an interview. They undergo a personality assessment test through an Interview.  Interview round will be carrying a total of 100 marks and the minimum qualifying marks in interview is 40%.

The eventual result is calculated on the basis of overall performance of the candidate. For which, the written exam is given 80% weightage and Interview is given 20% weightage.
